PENGUIN BRIEF: INSPIRATIONAL SOURCES – JOHN WAYSHAK

Jonathan Wayshak

Jonathan Wayshak is an illustrator and comic artist i have followed on instagam for some time now and particularly like his work and style for his rough enthralling drawing style and his ability to utilise a variety of materials, ranging from brush ink, gouache, acrylic, pencil, watercolours, pens and a host of others available at any given time.
He is considered to be a “neosurrealist. Wayshak defines his work as “[…] the ramblings of a mad artist. Random drawings, scraps, scribbles, and sometimes, drawings that are a little more finished than a sketch. I believe this characteristic also aids in defining what the subject matter being focused on intends to communicate.
His drawings are very emotionally charged and expressive, a common trait which I believe is a major connecting point betweeen his illustrative approach and mine.
Jonathan in most of his works, focuses mainly on black and white illustrative images.
